A ribbon cutting was held for the grand opening of Phase Two of the El Camino Estates housing development in Northeast Rochester.
Phase Two of the estates includes the construction of 25 rental housing units on sites near El Camino Trail. Phase One was completed in 2010 in the same area; also including 25 units.
The project provides safe and affordable housing including 15 three-bedroom and 10 four-bedroom houses. Three are accessible for people with disabilities.
"We're now into 50 houses here, and you can tell by walking around this neighborhood we're having an impact," said Rochester mayor Tom Richards, (R). "We're coordinating our efforts here, we're spending money on infrastructure, we're spending money on other kinds of support. We're on a concept of rental here, which allows people to get into good housing in a way that they might otherwise not be able to do so."
The City contributed $500,000 to the $6.2 million project.
