SCOTTSVILLE, N.Y. -- At Stokoe Farms in Scottsville, employees and volunteers are getting ready to ship Christmas trees to troops serving overseas. It's part of the Trees for Troops program. Nearly 60 trees will go to service members from the Rochester area serving in Afghanistan, Kuwait, Korea, Germany, Gitmo and aboard aircraft carriers.

Christmas ornaments made by local students and senior citizen groups are also packed with the trees. Each package also includes a Christmas card and bag of candy. The idea is to help make the holiday season a little brighter for those serving away from home.

"Just to know that you can make an impact on one person when they're serving away from their family at a difficult time of year in a very harsh and unfriendly environment. That has really brought this to heart and why we feel this program is so important and we're so dedicated to it," said Suzanne Stokoe, Stokoe Farms.

This is the seventh year Stokoe Farms has participated in the Trees for Troops program. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
