Two Batavia firefighters accused in connection with a gambling ring have resigned as part of a plea deal.

Firefighters Gregory Phillips, Brian Bordanaro, and a third man, Lance Engel, appeared in Batavia City Court in court Tuesday. All three pleaded guilty to promoting gambling in the 2nd degree; a misdemeanor.

They were arrested in February after investigators say they were running a sports betting operation where they made a profit by accepting bets on professional and college sports.

"This was people betting, gambling on football games. It was blown so out of proportion which is why it ended up being a misdemeanor," said Larry Andolina, defense attorney.

Their sentence could range from probation to up to a year in jail. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
