You only have four more days to hear the familiar holiday sounds of people helping people.

The Salvation Army's Red-Kettle campaign got some help Thursday from members of the Rochester Fire Department. Some of these guys have been "ringing-up" donations for 28 years.

Salvation Army officials say they've raised about $420,000 toward their campaign goal of $560,000.

Organizers are hopeful. The weather has cooperated so far and the number of volunteers is nearing a record.

"We've been very blessed this year to have over 8,000 volunteers to work with us, and that's an additional 500 hours have been booked to help us ring," said Captain Randy Orr of the Salvation Army. "So that should translate to good numbers, but quite frankly you don't know 'til after the season's over."

The kettle campaign continues through Christmas eve. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
