Depending on your interpretation of the ancient Mayan calendar, Friday represents either an end or a new beginning. Or it could be just another day, for many.

On the last day before the Winter solstice, it sure felt like the next day.

"A little cold, a little chilly," said Eric O'Neill.

But not the threat of winter, nor the looming prediction of the world's demise could keep golfers off the course at Braemar Country Club.

"Having a ball. Can't be any better than this, buddy. Right before Christmas, playing a little golf? Fantastic," said John Masten.

It might be the last round of golf of the year for John Masten, Bob Natale, and their buddies.

If you believe the tales surrounding the Mayan calendar and the world's end, could it be the last round, ever?

"What do you think? You really want to tell him what we think?"

"I'm ready. I'm all ready to go. Got my clubs packed. They say the golf courses there are a lot better," O'Neill said.

"There ain't no end of the world, alright," said Natale.

For every non-believer...

"Pandaman is an art gallery, cafe. We promote local artists, underground artists," said Beth Small, owner.

...there's a marketing wiz with bases covered.

"It's the end of the world sale. Seeming how the end of the world is coming, might as well get some good art, Y'know?"

The deals at Pandaman on Monroe Avenue include artwork, a cup of coffee, and street apparel.

"We figure why not, sell it. It's going to be the end of the world, so come spend your cash and come support before we all blow up," said Johnny Jeffries, GoldnRd.

Just up the road in downtown Rochester... a festival.

"It's a 30 day, 30 band heavy metal and rock extravaganza," said Jed Seaver, Montage Music Hall.

The End of the World fest at Montage Music Hall may feature some bands that sound like the end of the world, but it's scheduled, optimistically, to last through the weekend.

"With this whole end of the world thing and the Mayan calendar and everybody going crazy because they think everythings gonna disappear or something, we decided let's just play off of it and see what happens," Seaver said.

Disclaimer. If the world ends on Friday, there are no refunds.

"In reality, if the world was ending it would have already happened, because it's the 21st in Australia, right?"

We do know December 21st represents the day a key part of the Mayan calendar. In recent months, that's brought on all sorts of speculation and tales. A doomsday scenario. Planets crashing into earth. Even NASA chimed in saying, no, the world will not end Friday.

But if somehow it were true, and December 20th was the last day before the End of Days – if this were my last story – here's what I'd do. Celebrate my birthday. It's today. I'd listen to loud music. Buy something really cool. Tell my family I love them.

And I'd probably be just a little jealous that I didn't get to play one last round with those guys who spent their day out on the golf course.

But you know what they say. There's always tomorrow.
