After almost a year of renovations, the once outdated Strathallan Hotel has reopened. The hotel, exhibiting a more modern image, is now backed by an internationally recognized brand.

You've seen it standing along East Avenue since the 1970s, but you've never seen it like this.

"I think the Strathallan is going to be an integral part in making Rochester a destination location," said Jay Rettberg, general manager.

First built as senior apartment housing before being converted into the Strathallan, management over the years has been trying to reinvent the hotel. It's now showing off a new logo and is partnered with the Hilton Double Tree brand.

"That brand with this product and this location was a home run."

Since closing in January 2012, the hotel was taken down to it's core structure and underwent a $10 million renovation.

"It's like seeing a rebirth and it's just been wonderful."

The nine-story hotel now features the steak restaurant Char. The 155 rooms and luxury suites feature balconies overlooking Rochester.

Open just over a month, the renovated Strathallan Hotel, now featuring an indoor heated pool and brand new meeting rooms, has already started to attract a larger corporate clientele.

"The size of the rooms that makes you feel like you're not in a hotel room. They're open and airy, the natural light."

Greg Mott has already booked his son's wedding at the Strathallan and is planning future events.

"It's modern, it's clean, it's downtown, well located. They have recreated a first rate hotel that Rochester has not had in many, many years," said Mott.

The hotel features artwork by local artists, and owners Robert Morgan and David Christa are keeping a close eye on the 'New Strath' as it's called.

"They are behind every bit of service that their guest is going to receive," Rettberg said.

Rettberg hopes the Strathallan will make its mark on the social scene and attract visitors for business, pleasure, and even those 'staycations' in between.

"As we start to market what wonderful things we have going on in Rochester, I think this is a catalyst to help us get there."
