Steven Reinke, 17, pleaded not guilty to four counts of first degree criminal sexual act and and four counts of first degree sexual abuse.

Prosecutors say the abuse happened while Reinke was babysitting the girl in a Honeoye Falls home. According to court paperwork, Reinke is accused of oral sexual contact and other sexual contact with the girl, who is under the age of 11, in May and October of last year.

Prosecutor Laura Vanderbrook said she's charging Reinke as an adult, saying he was 16 at the time of the alleged incidents. She says the allegations came to light after the child told family members.

"Ninety percent of the victims that are sexually abused, the abuse has occurred when somebody is in a position of trust that has access to those children," said Vanderbrook. "Almost all cases of child sexual abuse obviously occur behind closed doors. This is not something that happens out in public. So having witnesses is very rare in these cases. But the child has been consistent throughout her disclosure."

Defense Attorney Joe Damelio told the court they were surprised by the charges.

Vanderbrook had asked that bail be set at $25,000. Damelio told the judge Reinke had no priors and made it to all his court appearances. He told the judge $25,000 was "ridiculous."

Judge Vincent Dinolfo released Reinke on his own recognizance.
