If all goes as planned, a new multi-purpose sports complex planned for Wayne County could open by October. It would be located in Walworth and offer year-round indoor sports for area youth leagues. The owners of the facility say there is a need for that type of facility on the east side of Rochester.

A group of parents wants to turn 147 acres of farmland along Route 441 in Walworth into a multi-purpose sports complex.

Phase I of Your Sports Depot would include indoor soccer and lacrosse fields, basketball courts, martial arts academy, restaurant, and pre-school.

"Everybody in the world has thought about it; we actually took the steps to get going. We've tried different facilities. We decided out here that this would be a great place to start. We got the land and off we went," said Chris Klee, Your Sports Depot CEO.

The concept was first presented to town officials in March of last year. Since then, the owners and developers have held numerous discussions with the Walworth Planning Board.

"Everything is in place where right now, we're expecting their design engineers to finish their final drawings so that they can request a formal application from us and come and talk to the Planning Board regarding a subdivision site plan approval," said Phil Williamson, Walworth Code Enforcement Officer.

Total Sports Experience in Gates is considered one of the premier athletic complexes in the area. However, it's location, on the west side of Monroe County, is not convenient for those living on the east side of town.

Your Sports Depot would not only provide eastsiders with a facility closer to home, it's also expected to boost that area's economy.

"We're going to be creating some jobs, creating excitement, creating people coming out this way, it's going to help their businesses out here so it's really a win for everybody," Klee said.

The location is rural, so there isn't expected to be much opposition to this proposal, unlike a similar plan in the Ontario County hamlet of Fishers that is drawing questions from neighbors.

"I don't think we have that here. We've been in front of the town, we've been out in front and everyone seems super excited that we're going to be out here," Klee said.
