The City of Batavia is giving residents two more months of garbage and recycling before they have to find their own contractor.
Wednesday night, the City held a meeting that solidified its decision to give residents garbage service until May 31st.
The move allows residents more time to transition as the city gets out of the garbage pick up business.
"I don't think we went into this thinking that we were going to get out of the business," said
Jason Molino, City of Batavia Manager. "We went into this thinking how are we going to provide the most efficient and cost effective service we can. That proposal, for a variety of reasons, was not the one that was executed and this is another direction we went."
The City will be mailing out contractor information to residents. That list includes the ARC who currently provides the service.
A public hearing will be held March 11 at 7 p.m. to discuss the changes in garbage pickup.
